Dramatization: The Theater of the Mind and the Distortion of Reality

(By Alberto Bonizzato – Behavioral Coach)

Within the POMM (Perspective of Observation of Mind Mechanics), dramatization is not interpreted as a character flaw, an existential weakness, or a theatrical exaggeration; it is a fundamental mechanical process. It is the precise computational operation through which the mind "loads" a neutral event with disproportionate emotional and moral weight, converting a raw, objective fact into an existential drama.

Without the active filter of dramatization, the facts of life would flow linearly like empirical data across a screen. With it, however, that exact same data becomes the customized script for a tragedy or an epic narrative designed to justify our chronic suffering and behavioral choices.

1. From Neutral Registration to Emotional Loading

As established in the genealogy of the Emotional Model, the child initially registers experiences in a completely neutral manner. A parental scolding, a physical fall, or an environmental silence are processed purely as incoming data. Dramatization intervenes at a secondary stage—heavily driven by collective culture and familial language—to "color" these baseline entries.

The mind applies a specific emotional gain (acting precisely like an audio amplifier) to targeted memory traces. Within the mental economy, this operation serves three distinct purposes:

Memory Fixation: A dramatized event is rendered structurally impossible for the neural architecture to forget.

Identity Creation: It manufactures a rigid narrative frame: "I am the specific individual to whom this monstrous event occurred."

Model Stabilization: Dramatization operates to make specific convictions regarding the self and the entourage "heavy," and consequently immovable.

2. The Role of Morals and Language

Dramatization weaponizes morals as its primary operational instrument. To successfully mutate a raw fact into an existential drama, the mind must immediately establish a vertical axis defining a "culprit" and a "victim." The millisecond an event is labeled as "unjust," "terrible," or "unforgivable," the mind ceases to analyze the actual mechanics of the occurrence to focus exclusively on the projected suffering.

Linguistic formatting plays a crucial role here. Words such as betrayal, abandonment, or failure do not describe actions; they describe dramatized interpretations. Once a raw fact is "named" and categorized through this moralistic code, the subject loses the sensory capacity to see the event in its naked reality and begins to react defensively to the verbal label they have applied to it.

3. The Homeostatic Function of Drama

Why does the internal system choose to suffer through the mechanism of dramatization? The answer resides within the homeostasis of the model.

Drama provides the organism with a flawless structural justification for remaining static. If my suffering is "monumental" and triggered by "monstrous" external factors (dramatization), then my operational inefficacy and helplessness are fully legitimized.

The Paradox of Comfort in Pain

Drama is profoundly reassuring to the unconscious system. It allows the individual to safely remain within the perimeter of their known, predictable Emotional Model, yielding the comforting illusion of possessing a deep, complex identity while, in reality, they are merely executing a learned, repetitive script.

4. Relational Dynamics: The "Hijacking" of the Other

Within interpersonal interactions, dramatization operates as the primary weapon for the coatta request for attention. Through the dramatic narration of their problems, illnesses, or heroic exploits, the individual systematically hijacks the attention quota of the interlocutor:

If an event is recounted through technical parameters, the other processes the data with objective listening.

If the event is recounted through dramatized parameters, the interlocutor's system is mechanically forced to react emotionally (via pity, indignation, rage, or admiration).

This generates a severe relational dependency: the individual must continuously dramatize reality to feel the raw weight of their own existence through the reflected feedback of the entourage. Stripped of the drama, the system experiences the immediate terror of becoming invisible.

5. De-dramatization: The Return to Efficacy

Inner evolution and behavioral coaching within the POMM framework target absolute de-dramatization. This operation does not mean turning the individual cold, detached, or cynical; rather, it aims to restore a surgical precision to their reading of reality. The protocol executes across three mechanical phases:

1. Isolate the Fact: Strip away the moral adjective and the emotional gain from the memory trace. What exactly transpired on a physical, objective level?

2. Recognize the Script: Comprehend that the active suffering currently being experienced is generated entirely by our own "theatrical" interpretation, never by the historical event itself.

3. Replace Dramatization with Action: Instead of burning metabolic energy to "feel" and romanticize the tragedy, the individual invests that energy into managing the real-world parameters of the current situation.

Conclusion

Dramatization is the selective filter that transforms human life into a virtual illusion coherent with our un-updated past. Dismantling this filter means to permanently cease operating as passive spectators (or actors) of our own pain, in order to become the conscious directors of our actual, real-world efficacy.
