The Deconstruction of the Conscious Self into a Software of Defense and Social Performance

(By Alberto Bonizzato – Behavioral Coach)

Within traditional psychological and philosophical models, the "Ego" has historically been treated as the core seat of consciousness, the authentic essence of individuality, or a sophisticated psychic referee balancing primitive impulses and social morality.

In stark contrast, the Perspective of Observation of Mind Mechanics (POMM) completely strips this construct of its romanticized, idealist halo. Observed through a bio-deterministic lens, the Ego is not an entity, nor is it the "pilot" of the human machine. The Ego is an epifenomeno—a terminal cognitive software, a virtual simulator generated by the neocortex to map, project, and safeguard the organism's perceived rank and social identity within the entourage.

The Ego is the absolute solidification of the Represented Self. It operates as a protective, defensive interface designed to conceal the deep, un-updated deficits (lacune) of the primary Emotional Model.

1. The Genesis of the Ego: The Armor Over the Lacuna

To understand the mechanics of the Ego, we must trace its computational origin back to primary childhood imprinting. As established by the POMM, a child is a subcortical biological recorder that somatically absorbs the emotional frequencies, neuroses, and apprensioni emitted by the caregivers.

When the primary family unit administers conditional validation—meaning the child is granted attention and safety only when conforming to specific parental scripts (efficiency, conflict, or sickness)—a structural fracture occurs. The child internalizes a core file of intrinsic inadequacy.

To prevent the system from entering a permanent state of high-arousal panic over this perceived unworthiness, the neocortex activates a defensive simulation protocol: the Ego.

The Ego is the customized armor built specifically to fit the shape of the internal deficit. It is an artificial, cognitive representation of the self that says: "Since my raw being is inadequate to extract love and safety, I will construct a performing character that the world will be forced to validate."

The individual does not "possess" an Ego; the individual's mental vehicle executes an Ego-software to survive the terrifying projection of social non-existence.

2. The Mechanics of the Ego: The Dual Vector of Performance and Protection

The Ego operates via a strict binary code designed to manipulate environmental feedback and maintain internal homeostasis. It functions entirely on the plane of Represented Reality, moving along two primary behavioral strategies:

A. The Superiority Matrix (The Performance Mask)

When the Emotional Model is formatted around competitive emulation, the Ego structures its identity upon the track of outshining the other: "I exist only if I am positioned above."

Here, the Ego weaponizes titles, social status, aesthetic perfection, or intellectual dogmatism as symbolized contents. This mask does not seek authentic communication; it executes a permanent extortion of rank. Every relational interaction is reduced to a battlefield where the other must be minimized or patologizzato so that the Ego can confirm its precarious sense of adequacy.

B. The Inferiority Matrix (The Sacrificial/Victimistic Shield)

Paradoxically, the Ego can build an equally powerful and rigid identity upon weakness, distress, and failure. If the primary training demonstrated that attention is most effectively extracted through suffering or illness, the Ego will fiercely defend its status as an "excellent victim."

This configuration uses the moralization of pain as an unassailable shield: "I am structurally good and right because the world is continuously unjust to me." In this scenario, the Ego systematically rejects any real-world opportunity for resolution, because solving the problem would mean deleting the very script that guarantees its relational visibility.

3. The Structural Blindness of the Ego: Immunity to Empirical Data

The absolute tragedy of the Ego-software is its complete disconnection from raw, objective reality. Because its sole purpose is to preserve the stability of the known model, the Ego enforces a strict barrier-type projective selection on all incoming environmental feedback.

When the entourage emits signals that contradict the Ego's pre-set narrative, the system reacts with immediate mechanical rejection:

The Rejection of Success: If a performer with an inadequacy-based Ego wins world recognition (the Hollywood Paradox), the system registers the empirical proof of value as an acute identity threat. To accept being "already enough" would render decades of frantic struggle and rage entirely meaningless. The Ego will immediately devalue the prize ("it was just luck/politics") to re-ignite the performance engine.

The Rejection of Critique: If the Ego is challenged by dissenting facts, it instantly misinterprets the data as a personal assault, escalating fear into defensive aggression or moralistic outrage.

The Ego does not look at the world to learn; it mutilates the world to extract a customized mirror reflection that confluences into a permanent state of auto-conferma (self-validation). It prefers the predictable comfort of a dramatized tragedy over the terrifying uncertainty of a real-world update.

4. The Linguistic Cloaking of the Ego

The Ego is a master of semantic mimetismo. To protect its credibility within a hyper-regulated collective society, it rarely presents its raw, narcissistic nature openly. Instead, it cloaks its power-seeking and rank-extracting intentions in highly celebrated, moralistic formats:

Paternalism & Philanthropy: "I am helping you because I am good," which translates mechanically into: "I require your baseline inefficacy to occupy a pedestal of moral superiority."

Hyper-Responsibility & Heroism: "If I don't take care of everything, this system will collapse," which translates mechanically into: "I must render myself indispensable to extort importance and block anyone from evaluating my internal void."

On the verbal plane, the Ego enounces altruism and care; on the subcortical, limbic plane, it executes a rigid control protocol designed to anchor the interlocutor into a subordinate position.

5. Dismantling the Ego: From Representation to Efficacy

In the therapeutic and developmental practice of the POMM, evolution is never defined as "strengthening the Ego" or "healing the Ego." You cannot heal a software designed to lie. Evolution mandates the gradual deconstruction of the Ego to restore the organism to the absolute primacy of sensory data and real-world action.

This mechanical update requires three distinct operational steps:

1. Isolating the Performance Mask: The subject must become technically aware of the specific character they are playing, recognizing that their social representations (titles, roles, martyrdoms) are merely compensatory tools used to shield a transgenerational deficit.

2. Disactivating the Market of Validation: The individual must intentionally cease the coatta extraction of external approval. This means accepting to be "non-performing" in front of the entourage, breaking the addictive loop of checking the external Locus of Control.

3. The Restoration of L'Agito Nudo (The Raw Action): Shifting the metabolic energy of the brain away from the cognitive theater ("How do I look? What do they think?") and channeling it exclusively into the raw, unscripted management of physical reality.

Conclusion

The Ego is the ultimate barrier to authentic Emotional Independence. It is the virtual director of an illusions-driven life, forcing the individual to act as a perpetual slave to an un-updated past.

To dissolve the Ego is to silence the theatrical script of the mind. Only when the frantic necessity to prove, demonstrate, and defend one's represented value is permanently disengaged, can the mental vehicle finally land on reality—transforming the burden of performance into the clean, silent efficacy of authentic existence.
